How to Reduce Shipping Costs on Food Imports

Practical ways to cut freight costs — from choosing LCL vs FCL to timing your orders around the harvest.

How to Reduce Shipping Costs on Food Imports

Consolidate into full containers

A 20-ft container holds roughly 25–26 tonnes of bagged rice or sugar. Full container loads (FCL) cost far less per tonne than part loads (LCL).

Buy in season

Prices and availability are best just after harvest. Plan your orders around India's kharif (Oct–Dec) and rabi (Mar–May) crops.

Mix products in one container

Many exporters, including Flux Exim, can load mixed commodities — for example rice, pulses and spices — in a single container.
